Create soft images using graphite in many of its forms, chalk and oil pastels, conte, and charcoal. a wide variety of techniques will be explored. during these lessons there will also be instruction on shading, cast shadows, perspective and composition.
We will learn classical proportions of both the face and clothed body. Students will create portraits using various mediums and formats depending of the student's age. We will also learn to draw the human form in action.
Create multiple prints using various means such as: mono prints, relief printing and simplified engravings. Older students will have the opportunity to create a reduction print. Only older students will have access to Lino tools as they are sharp.
Students will explore many mediums such as: acrylic, watercolour, tempera and gouache, as well as the opportunity to use additives to enhance their paintings such as crackle or modelling paste. Paintings will be done on various surfaces and use several different application methods. During our time painting we will cover colour theory, gradients and different brush techniques.
Students will learn shading, depicting light and shadow, reflections, composition of a drawing and perspective. Older students will explore the use of "painting" with soft core coloured pencils adding layers of colour to achieve results. There will be a wide use of a variety of mediums and subject matter: everything from landscapes, animal portraits and macro drawing.
Pen and ink focuses on line-work: shading and drawing with only lines. This might be achieved by doing repetitive lines or varying the thickness of the line or by other forms of using pen and ink such as scrumbling, pointilism or cross hatching. Older students will be using nibs and pen handles along with India Ink to create their images as well as micro pens. Younger students will use fine tipped black markers.
Students will create a small 3D creation out of polymer clay or air dry clay. The use of armatures and building techniques will be covered. Some students will create a sculptural relief in plasticine.
